Tax Payments

Gates residents are required to pay 2 tax bills during the year. One being the Town & County Property taxes and other being School taxes.  Town & County taxes are for a calendar year. Period from Jan. 1st -Dec. 31st of each year.  School taxes bill are for the period of Jul. 1st – Jun. 30th.  See below for time frame and payment schedule.

*Please note that if a payment due date falls on a weekend or holiday, payments will be accepted next business day without penalty*

Cash and Check are accepted. Credit Card (MC, Visa, Amex and Discover) are also accepted, however a transaction fee will be added to the amount

**We do not recommend using bill pay,  as payments may take up to 14 days and come in without a postmark date.  If a bill pay is received AFTER the due date it will be considered late.**

Important Tax Deadlines:

 Town & County BillBills are normally mailed out on last week of December or first week of January. To avoid paying interest, Full payment is due on or before February 10th. Any payment(s) made before February 10th are interest free. We do accept postmarks if there is a question regarding the timelines of a payment. You can pay in person by stopping by our tax office at 1605 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624 or you can mail payment to the above address. Please make checks payable to Sarah Lobene, Tax Receiver. Please reference payment due dates / schedule below or refer to the back of your tax bill for further information.

No payment will be accepted at the town after May 31st.

School Tax Payment Information (Bills are mailed and should be received by first week of September)

Towns of the first class are obligated under New York State law to receive school taxes for public school districts within their jurisdiction. Tax rates are set by the school district.

If you are making PAYMENT IN FULL, mail or deliver your payment to Sarah Lobene, Tax Receiver, 1605 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624. Full payments must be paid on or before October 1st to avoid service fees.

Full payment made October 2 through October 31 require a 2% interest fee.

Full payments made from November 1 through November 18: Add 5%. Make checks payable to “Monroe County Treasurer”, P.O. Box 14420, Rochester, NY 14614 or pay in person at the Monroe County Clerks office at 39 West Main St., Room B-2.

Installment Payments

The 1st installment is paid to the Town Receiver and is due on or before September 15th. Installment payments must include the service fee. If you miss paying the 1st payment by September 15th there is a grace period from September 16-20: Add 1% to installment.

If you miss this window the installment option is no longer available.

The 2nd and 3rd payments only: Make check payable to “Monroe County Treasurer”. Installments are remitted to: “Monroe County Treasury”, P.O. Box 14420, Rochester, NY 14614 or pay in person at the Monroe County Clerks office at 39 West Main St., Room B-2 in Rochester.
